Circle Thrift Moving Day

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Today was moving day for Circle Thrift in Fishtown, Philadelphia. This involved not only loading things on trucks to bring down the street, but also a human-chain that spanned two blocks. The chain had maybe about 50 (plus or minus) people handing boxes, clothes, and other things, one by one down the line to the new location. It was a sight to see in Fishtown, as many people in the neighborhood stopped to ask about what was happening. It was an exciting day for Circle Thrift. The new store is going to be much more accessible and larger to fit all the donations that people drop off every day.

Grover Cleveland School

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

I took part in a multicultural awareness presentation, and fund raiser for a school in Tanzania over at Grover Cleveland School last night with my drum class, taught by Jay Beck. The kids at this school were getting really into the music, to the point where there was about 30 of them jumping and dancing around on stage with us. It was a really fun experience, and I was glad I was able to help share in this special night for the kids. Here are a few images from the night taken by both me and my friend Dan.

The Best Day Ever Crew

Yesterday, also known as, The Kinetic Sculpture Derby and Trenton Arts Festival, was the best day ever 2008. Last year on this day was the first time I’d witnessed the Derby, and it was the funnest thing I’ve ever taken part in.

What is a Kinetic Sculpture? It’s a man-powered sculpture that moves! Many of these were converted from old bicycles. Neighborhood Bike Works [link], where I volunteer, had built an amazing sculpture called “Skull with Wings.” Bike Church also built one which was mechanically amazing! A bunch of other friends of mine participated with different sculptures, themes and costumes. I also scored two awesome T-shirts from Eightees Baby Design Co. [link]

I can’t wait for next year!
